Contemporary Ghareebs: Exhibit Miami
The Aftab Committee, 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports Iranian-American artists and their works. By raising awareness, advocating education, and facilitating various events and exhibits, Aftab aims to build a bridge between the American public and Iranian-American artists and art. In 'Contemporary Ghareebs, Aftab present's a curatorial project of a body of work that goes beyond the persistent and repetitive use of visual elements that perpetuates orientalism. In Persian, the word Ghareeb means wanderer or stranger. In this exhibit all these artists or Ghareebs, explore ways in which histories, bodies, spirits, and identities are experienced individually illustrating their journey from within. These artworks illuminate elements that reminds us that we are all one in this expedition. We travel, some of us forever, to explore life and death, joy and loneliness, boredom and ecstasy, yesterday and the future, history and consciousness, love and suffering, the real and the ideal. It involves what’s close and whats strange. No matter where we are on this journey, we’re always a bit of a ghareeb bound together, because this life, this art is our homeland.

About Prizm Art Fair:
PRIZM is the producer of a cutting-edge cultural platform that is multidisciplinary in scope. Our goal is to expand the spectrum of exhibiting international artists from the African Diaspora and emerging markets.
Our mission is to promote the work of artists from Africa and global African Diaspora, who reflect global trends in contemporary art. Workshops and special events are organized throughout the year to advance critical dialogue and sharpen the lens through which we view and understand contemporary art. We are committed to the Miami cultural community and will work to expand its visual arts landscape, nurture and educate its constituents and provide forums for cross cultural exchange.
Prizm exhibits a dynamic group or contemporary artists during Art Basel/Miami Beach and beyond. Salient works are presented that highlight the diversity evident in contemporary visual art practices today, including painting sculpture and mixed media installations.
Additionally, PRIZM will feature the work of emerging Miami-based contemporary artists. These artists redefine their world and bring into focus socio-political and cultural issues pertinent to the people of African descent in Miami and beyond. The select artists are actively engaged in perpetuating Miami’s growth as a cultural hub.
