Latela Art Gallery: Collective Membership Welcoming Aftab Committee (Washington, D.C.)
Latela Art Gallery is pleased to announce a new partnership with Aftab Committee and welcome their staff as they co-work from the gallery beginning April 2017. As part of LATELA’s mission to nurture the local community, the gallery is offering a new membership opportunity for select local creatives to co-work out of the Latela Art Gallery. This membership includes many benefits in addition to creative working space.
Since the gallery’s reopening following two months of interior renovation (February 2017), the gallery space aesthetic aims to reflect the interior design market it sells to as well as provide affordable creative studio space in many dynamic forms. The gallery transformed its interior to include a boutique shop of local-made crafts and art prints, a welcoming sitting area and an office space, which will be utilized by creative co-working members. The gallery is open to the public for creative rental use (photoshoots, meetings, panel discussions) as well as for intimate gatherings via venue rental (showers, dinners, gatherings).
Aftab Committee is a Washington, D.C.-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that supports Iranian-American artists and their works. By raising awareness, advocating education, and facilitating various events and exhibits, Aftab Committee aims to increase public consciousness and appreciation of Iranian-American artists and art.
Aftab Committee Founder & Director Shahrooz Shekaraubi will work out of the Latela Art Gallery regularly along with Aftab Committee Communications and Outreach Specialist Rebecca Fulp-Eickstaedt. “This partnership was a no-brainer in that Shahrooz and I have many similar morals in defining the art collections we are building, the artists we choose to work with and how we promote their careers. We are excited to host Aftab Committee in our gallery and look forward to their upcoming projects, including an exhibition to come featuring one of their collection artists in early 2018 at the Latela Art Gallery” – Marta Staudinger, LATELA Director.

As noted in the “Best of D.C.” poll, LATELA is "focused on community building and connecting emerging creatives with opportunities and arts industry guidance."
